What were Greek numbers and letters used for in ancient Athens?
The city was a great center for art and literature. Writers, artists and philosophers congregatedto Athens where they could think and work in freedom. For many centuries afterwards, people interested in learning more about art and literature would go to the Athens and study more. Greek letters were used for writing Greek words, letters, and symbols. The first nine letters were used for the numbers one through nine. The next nine letters were used for multiples of ten through 90. The next nine letters were used for 100 through 900. Lots of Greek letters are used in science and math. They are mostly used for functions, variables, and consonants. The Ancient Greeks developed the alphabet for writing. Their common writing and language was one of the things that brought together the Greeks. There alphabet is a lot different from ours today.
